Thrivent Builds Homes/Illini Radio Group Building Schedule 507 and 509 E Bradley, Champaign IL 61820 Printable Copy of this document Responsibility of Habitat for Humanity of Champaign Count (HFHCC)Prior to construction start, HFHCC will purchase the building site, provide the house plan and make provisions for survey, site plan layout, pulling proper permits, excavation, poured footings and walls, and backfill of foundation.During the construction period, Habitat will review construction progress, modify building schedule as required, find and schedule subcontractors, schedule inspections, order and receive materials, review construction quality, track bills, and pay expenses. Responsibility of the Thrivent Builds Homes (TBH) and Illini Radio Group (IRG)Thrivent will work with area Lutheran congregations to direct volunteers (for builds and food service) to HFHCC for the build days. Habitat encourages each volunteer to bring a basic set of tools (hammer, tape measure, pencil, utility knife, gloves, and proper attire) with them to the worksite, however HFHCC will provide basic tools if needed.Typical Workday Schedule7:45–8 AM: Volunteers arrive on site8:00 AM: Morning meeting and devotions 10:00 AM: Mid-morning break 12:00–12:30 PM: Lunch 2:00 PM: Afternoon break (especially during warm weather) 4:00–4:30 PM: Finish tasks and clean up Typical Workday StaffingHFHCC Construction Manager Paul ZindarsHFHCC Build Volunteer Manager Three skilled team leaders Ten to fifteen build volunteers Food service volunteers Volunteer CategoriesCrew Leaders: Crew leaders are community volunteers with some skill in the day’s activity. They will be responsible for working with unskilled volunteers on site, under the direction of the construction manager. Volunteers for the crew leader position will be asked to attend a meeting with the construction manager in early May to go over the build schedule and plans.Crew Members: Community members who are willing to help out. Absolutely no skill needed, only a mind for safety. Meal Coordinator: Lunches for the full crew are donated each build day. One or two volunteers will take responsibility for food and drink, making sure that it is delivered on time to the work site and cleaned up afterwards. Groups are welcome to prepare meals or simply purchase them from restaurants. How to volunteerHabitat for Humanity will manage all volunteer intake and scheduling. No one may be on the build site without advance registration. Once you find a week that matches your availability and interest, submit the Volunteer Registration Form, or Volunteer online. Our Build Volunteer Manager, Ellen Willcox, will then contact you to go over safety requirements and the like. During the week before your scheduled shift she will contact you to review the day’s goals and schedules.Pre-ConstructionTo be announced. This involves clearing the sites, getting it ready for groundbreaking, etc. In 2004 we had an overgrown site that needed to have several truckloads of brush removed prior to anything else happening on the site.Groundbreaking - Saturday, 19 May, 200710 a.m.Help in planning food, speakers, set up and take down is more than welcome.
